The collection of chips in poker

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

One has to stay focused while playing a poker game. Whether you’re at single poker table or whether you’re in a full tournament, being alert keeps you in the game. And if it’s a game to be played with a poker chip or an entire chip set collection, concentration and alertness is important.

Analyze what you are doing. Just do not follow the crowd blindly. If the opponent’s an expert at handling chips then he can surely dump you by distracting you mentally while handling those casino chips. If you previously played badly don’t show the dismay on your face.

You have to attain the highest number of chips. That is, you have to acquire the chip lead in the game. May it be clay chip or the Texas Hold’em chip. You have to be the player with the highest number of chips. This will determine your position in the game. Your victory depends on how well you play the game and the collection that you have made as far as your chips are concerned. The higher the number the better chances you have. But make sure that you concentrate on each and every step in the game and play wisely.

Concentrate when playing poker in Casinos

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Casinos are large establishments with hundreds of different gambling machines and games; alcohol overflows, women parade around, and people shuffle in and out in the thousands. To play a game of high stakes poker in an environment like this takes a major strength in concentration. As the stakes get higher, the pressure rises; and the casino environment brings forth a whole new world of distraction. Whether it be the lights, the noise, the people, or just the atmosphere, a player must keep focused on the game at all times.

In order to keep focused at the casino table there are a few key elements. One is to not have a drink. Drinking (especially at the casino) often does not involve just beer but harder liquors which will severely hurt your game. Second is to trust your judgment over reading characteristics on some of the players. Not all of the players are sober and thus their habits are or could be completely random. Lastly is to only play aggressive when you have someone cornered exactly where you need them; being too risky in a casino is not like losing to your buddies - it is often more like loosing an entire clay chip stack – rather than a twenty dollar game.

Some history about poker

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Poker can be defined as a variety of card games that include betting, and in some cases, hand rankings.  There are several variations about how poker actually began; it has not always been played with chip sets.  Some say it was invented by the Chinese around 969 A.D., while others remember very early German games that included bluffing, betting, and hand rankings.

Poker played in Apache casinos using the popular clay chip, while around 1834 references were made to a cheating card game that was being played on the riverboats in Mississippi.  Some accounts believe that poker was truly born on the riverboats in Mississippi during that timeframe, it continued to gain momentum and popularity at that point.  It has continued to continuously grow and develop variations in the game.

Whatever its origin, it is known that poker was very popular during the Wild West period in the United States.  Most every saloon is said to have had poker tables and be ready for a good game.  It was also a popular pastime for soldiers during the Civil War, both Confederate and Union troops.
