The strategies of the Texas Holdem poker game

Monday, July 27th, 2009

If you are a poker player you must be aware of the different strategies that matter during the game. Don’t make the mistake that every inexperienced player does while playing. Do not start betting like a crazy fellow but try and consider different aspects caught up in solid pre-flop strategy.

You must first of all consider the number of player on the poker table, the strategy of the players i.e., whether aggressive or passive and above all how much risk you are ready to entail. Above that you have to see what cards you have in hand as well as the texas holdem poker chips.

You can also take the help of a pre-flop calculator but at the same time read your opponent’s activities so that you get an idea of his strategy. Do not be aggressive and go on betting but if your opponent is winning also, be patient and nail him to the wall when you have a solid hand in the game. Increase your poker chip lead

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Poker’s popularity has grown increasingly in the past few years. Combining both chance and skill it has easily won the hearts of young and old alike. The beauty of this addictive game is that, whether or not you have actually been dealt cards that will earn you the chip lead, you can still bluff your way to victory simply by knowing just how to do it.

Professional players will watch closely for a few rounds, studying your body language and habits. If they discover that every time you have a good hand, for instance, you flip a Texas holdem chip, this will be taken note of. This method is known as a “tell”. If another player is able to pick up on your tells, they are then able to “read” you thus giving them an upper hand in the game.

However, if you walk up to poker tables with this information at the forefront of your mind, you will be able to use their own method against them. Not only will you now be more aware of other player’s tells, but you can also consider faking signals and signs that others may perceive as a tell, only to find out later on that they have been mislead completely.

Texas Holdem Strategy - Preflop To Win!

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

On a short bankroll? You’ll be better off with a conservative (tight) strategy as this reduces your variance and enables you to reduce the risk of going bust (at the expense of winning less than you could). This means playing only premium starting hands, and folding anything else, even if you have a chip lead. Premium means BIG PAIRS!.

If the antes/blind structure is high relative to the bets (or the game is short handed) your strategy should be more aggressive (or the blinds eat away your stack). Low pairs, suited connectors, et cetera. Is your game wild, with lots of preflop raising? That makes the cost of seeing the flop too high. Thus, you should tighten your strategy and throw away all your draw hands in early position; and in late position as well if the pot is raised. Why? This is especially important if you are in games where there is a lot of pre-flop betting but the action slows down on the flop/turn. In all cases, be ready to fold at the earliest opportunity, and never, ever call a raise.

Poker - keeping your head in the game

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

When you’re playing poker, you’re playing to win. Don’t let your clay chips slip away because you’re too busy checking out the cocktail waitress or chatting it up with the guy or girl across the table. Many smart players give up a lot of chips because they get distracted and miss a read or poorly play a hand. When you sit down at the poker tables, you’re there for one reason, stay focused on that one reason.

There are some simple ways to keep your mind on the cards and the chips instead of the chicks. Always remember how much money you stand to lose by playing stupidly, and if that isn’t enough of a reminder to stay focused, you need to rethink your game. Most importantly, never get drunk at the table. Some say it is relaxing, but it is simply poor judgment and a sign of an amateur. The one thing that affects your success at the poker table more than anything is your judgment. If you stay sober, you can play like a pro and win like one too.

Cheating in Poker – An Unfair Advantage

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Cheating at anything in life is often viewed as a mechanism to get ahead when you are at a disadvantage, and can also be used for extra “just in case” padding when you have the clear advantage. There are obvious risks and rewards associated with cheating, particularly if done at the game of poker. At the poker tables, it can be difficult to cheat individually unless you somehow “mark” particular cards in the deck for future identification or manage to sneak a look at your opponents’ cards, which is fairly unlikely.

Cheating in poker can occur on an organized basis using a system of distractions. Players will often play with the texas holdem chip stack in front of them as a means to distract you from thinking about your move. The dangerous part of poker at the tables comes when two players are in collusion and intentionally cheating as a team.

In order to protect yourself from this, especially if you suspect something is “fishy”, you can either walk away from the table or play conservative to observe how the cheating is occurring. By chip betting in small amounts over a shorter period of time you limit your exposure to the cheaters at the table, and you should only make aggressive bets when your cards are very good.

Concentrate when playing poker in Casinos

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Casinos are large establishments with hundreds of different gambling machines and games; alcohol overflows, women parade around, and people shuffle in and out in the thousands. To play a game of high stakes poker in an environment like this takes a major strength in concentration. As the stakes get higher, the pressure rises; and the casino environment brings forth a whole new world of distraction. Whether it be the lights, the noise, the people, or just the atmosphere, a player must keep focused on the game at all times.

In order to keep focused at the casino table there are a few key elements. One is to not have a drink. Drinking (especially at the casino) often does not involve just beer but harder liquors which will severely hurt your game. Second is to trust your judgment over reading characteristics on some of the players. Not all of the players are sober and thus their habits are or could be completely random. Lastly is to only play aggressive when you have someone cornered exactly where you need them; being too risky in a casino is not like losing to your buddies - it is often more like loosing an entire clay chip stack – rather than a twenty dollar game.
